Euroopan Suunta -kampanja
Keskustelu on Euroopan tulevaisuuskonferenssia käsittelevän valtakunnallisen Euroopan Suunta -kampanjan vuoden päätöstilaisuus. Eurooppalainen Suomi on kutsunut kampanjan aikana suomalaiset pyöreän pöydän ääreen keskustelemaan Euroopan tulevaisuudesta. On aika ottaa vastuu Euroopan tulevaisuudesta. Kerro meille, miten rakennat parempaa Eurooppaa?

13:35 | PANEL DISCUSSION: BUILDING TOWARDS THE FIRST KIND SUPERPOWER?
The European Union has the world’s third largest population after China and India and is the world’s third largest economy after China and the United States. However, it is not considered a traditional superpower as it lacks in the defence and foreign policy spheres.
Increased political tensions, climate change and global health crises have raised concerns in Europe. An increasing number of politicians and analysts argue that the European Union should boost its strategic autonomy and develop a higher degree of European sovereignty to respond to the series of events in recent years that have exposed EU’s vulnerability to external shocks.
Are we building towards the first kind superpower that can both protect its citizens and make a positive change in the world?
If the European Union is to take its destiny into its own hands, what must change? And how can we maintain the principle of subsidiarity in the midst of this development?
Panelists:
Agnès Cukierman, French Ambassador to the Republic of Finland
Axel Dittman, Director Europe a.i.
Miapetra Kumpula-Natri, MEP
Nils Torvalds, MEP

15:15 | KEYNOTE: A DIVIDED NATION – FINLAND
European Movement International and European Movement Finland have the pleasure to present the public opinion poll results from Listen to Europe: A Divided Nation – Finland.
Listen to Europe is a long-term initiative aimed at helping civil society to set up targeted and informed campaigning based on data and segmentation of audiences. Towards this end, we have conducted public opinion surveys and social media monitoring that investigate drivers of the behaviours of citizens as well as the main topics and narratives present in the social media in each of eight project countries.
The results of the study show a divided nation and a more fragile Nordic democracy than assumed. What must we do to preserve our democracy? How should the pro-democratic forcer address the Finnish audiences? What lessons can we learn from the surveys executed in over a dozen EU member states so far?

Early in the Republican nominating contest for president, Matthew MacWilliams warned that President Donald Trump’s activation of American authoritarians would make his candidacy virtually unstoppable. His articles on Trump in POLITICO, the London School of Economics blog, and VOX sparked an international media debate that contributed to the framing of Trump and his tactics as authoritarian.
